How do I create my first tournament, from scratch?

Short answer

It's five steps, and the app keeps the Continue button locked until each step is complete. By the end of the fourth step the tournament already exists and is already underway — the fifth step is just telling people.

In 30 seconds

  • Only one field is truly required: the tournament name.
  • Format, scoring and size cannot be changed after Step 4 — the matches will already have been generated.
  • Venues are registered beforehand, under Settings › Collections › Locations — Step 1 only picks from the list.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Home › Create new tournament

The big button on the home screen.

  2. 2

    Step 1 — Information

Tournament name is the only required field. Date and time come pre-filled with today. Entry fee and Payment / contact are free text — write them your way (“$20 per pair”, “Pix or Zelle on WhatsApp”). Location is optional and comes from a list of venues you've already registered.

You can't create a new venue here — register it first under Settings › Collections › Locations.

  3. 3

    Step 2 — Format

Choose Fixed Pairs or Americano (which one to choose?); the size; how many games a match goes to; and, only in Fixed Pairs, the scoring type. Courts is fixed at 1 and shows a padlock.

  4. 4

    Step 3 — Teams / Players

Tap each empty spot. The sheet that opens offers three paths: pull from your iPhone Contacts, create a new player by typing a name, or pick from your list. Anyone already on another team shows up grayed out with “already in a team”.

  5. 5

    Step 4 — Review

Check the summary card and tap Generate and start. The app builds every match and the tournament is born in progress.

  6. 6

Step 5 — “Avisar jogadores” (notify players)

Pick the message language at the top, generate the flyer if you want, and notify people one by one or all at once (how the invite works). At the end, Go to tournament.

What goes wrong here

  • “Dupla 3: escolha os dois jogadores.” (Team 3: choose both players.) — someone's missing. Go back to Step 3.
  • “‘Ana’ está em duas duplas (Dupla 2 e Dupla 5).” (“Ana” is in two teams — Team 2 and Team 5.) — the same player can't appear twice.
  • Continue button gray on Step 1 — the tournament name is missing.
  • After Step 4 there's no canceling. The tournament already exists. Made a mistake? Leave and delete the tournament from the Tournaments list.

Why it works this way

The matches are generated in Step 4 and stored. That's why format, scoring and number of courts can no longer be edited afterward — it would change matches that already exist, possibly with scores already entered. The app would rather lock up than let you break a tournament in progress.
